Financial Advisers in Essex

The Wealth Manager is an Essex firm. We are based at Lynfield in Roydon, in the west of the county, and most of our Essex clients live in Harlow or the towns and villages of the Epping Forest district. We also work with people right across Essex by video call and phone.

Rooted in west Essex

Roydon lies in the Epping Forest district, right next to Harlow and on the border with Hertfordshire. From here, Harlow is a few minutes away, Nazeing is next door, and Epping and Waltham Abbey are a short drive south. We are a family-run firm: Laurence Gould leads on pensions, investments and business protection, Kealy Ball is our mortgage and protection specialist, and Christine Ball runs the office.

Wealth management in Essex, explained simply

“Wealth management” can sound like something only for the very well off. In practice it simply means managing all the parts of your financial life as one plan, rather than in separate boxes. For most of our clients that involves some or all of the following:

Retirement

Making sure your pensions are working for you, deciding when you can afford to stop work, and planning how to draw an income. Start with our pensions and retirement page and the income drawdown guide.

Investing

Putting money you will not need for some years to work, with a level of risk you are comfortable with. See investments. The value of investments can go down as well as up.

Protecting your family and income

Life cover, critical illness cover and income protection. See protection and our guide to critical illness cover.

Your home

Mortgages for buying, moving and remortgaging, arranged by Kealy Ball. See mortgages.

Your business

Key person cover, shareholder protection and relevant life plans for business owners. See business protection and the relevant life plan guide.

Our Essex towns

Each of these pages looks at a different town and the questions people there tend to ask.

We also help clients in Roydon Hamlet, Broadley Common, North Weald, Hatfield Heath and the surrounding villages. If you are elsewhere in Essex, we can work with you by video call and phone.

Choosing a financial adviser

Whoever you choose, it is worth asking a few questions before you commit:

  • Is the firm authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority? You can check on the FCA register.
  • What areas do they advise on, and who will you actually deal with?
  • How are they paid, and what will it cost you? Any costs should be explained clearly before you go ahead.
  • How will they keep your plan under review?
  • Do you feel comfortable asking them questions?

We are happy to answer all of these in a first conversation. Our article on choosing a financial adviser covers the subject in more detail. The Wealth Manager is a trading style of Julian Harris Adviser Network Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

In person or online

Clients near Roydon often like to meet face to face, while others prefer the convenience of a video call from home or work. Either is fine, and you can switch between them. Documents can be shared securely, so distance does not get in the way of good advice.

Getting started

Booking online sets up a free Google Meet video call with Laurence or Kealy. If you would prefer to talk by phone or meet at our Roydon office, call 0333 011 5550, or send a message through our contact page.

Important — the risks

The performance of your investments is subject to risk. Its performance may fluctuate based on movements in the market and economic conditions. Capital is at risk. Currency movements may also affect the value of investments. You may get back less than you originally invested. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Tax treatment is based on an individual’s unique circumstances and may be subject to change.

A pension is a long-term investment — the fund value may fluctuate and can go down, and your eventual income may depend on the size of the fund at retirement, future interest rates and tax legislation.

Think carefully before securing debts against your home. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage or any other debt secured on it. Please note that some mortgages, such as commercial buy-to-lets, are not regulated by the FCA.
