Financial Advisers in Roydon

Roydon is where we are based. The Wealth Manager is a family-run firm working from Lynfield on Harlow Road, so for Roydon residents your financial adviser is, quite literally, just down the road.

A village on the county border

Roydon sits in the Epping Forest district of Essex, on the River Stort, which marks the boundary with Hertfordshire for much of its length. The Stort Navigation and the Lee Valley Regional Park are on the village’s doorstep, and Roydon station, on the West Anglia Main Line between Broxbourne and Harlow Town, gives a direct rail link to London Liverpool Street. Harlow is a few minutes away by car, and Hoddesdon, Broxbourne and Nazeing are all close by.

Being on the border means we look after clients on both sides of it. From our office, Hertfordshire towns such as Hoddesdon and Ware are often as easy to reach as Essex ones.

What working with us looks like

Many people have never sat down with a financial adviser before and are not sure what to expect. In broad terms, it goes like this:

  1. A free first conversation. We talk about where you are now and what you would like to achieve. There is no charge and no obligation.
  2. Getting the full picture. If you would like to go ahead, we gather details of your income, savings, pensions, mortgage and any existing cover.
  3. A clear recommendation. We explain what we suggest and why, in writing and in plain English, including the risks.
  4. Keeping it on track. Circumstances change, so we keep plans under review to make sure they still fit.

Advice for every stage of life

Retirement and pensions. Whether retirement is twenty years away or next spring, we can help you work out what you have, what it might provide and how to draw an income. Our pensions page and income drawdown guide explain the options.

Investing. We build investment plans around your goals and the level of risk you are comfortable with, and review them over time.

Looking after the people who matter. Life cover, critical illness cover and whole of life policies can protect a family or help with plans for passing money on. See our protection page and whole of life assurance guide.

Homes. Kealy Ball arranges mortgages for buying, moving and remortgaging, including remortgages when a fixed rate is coming to an end.

Local businesses. If you run a company, we can talk about business protection for you, your partners and your key people.

Thinking about the next generation

Many of the conversations we have in and around Roydon are with people who have spent years building up their savings, pension and home, and now want to think about how that will help their children and grandchildren. There is no single answer, but the questions usually include:

  • Is there enough to give some help now, for example towards a grandchild’s first home, without putting your own retirement at risk?
  • Who have you nominated to receive your pensions, and is that still right?
  • Would life cover written in trust help your family deal with any tax or costs on your estate?
  • Are your wills and other arrangements up to date? We can talk about how your financial plan fits with them, and suggest you speak to a solicitor where legal advice is needed.

Tax rules in this area can and do change, so we always look at your own circumstances rather than giving general rules.

Self-employed and working from home

Roydon has its share of people who run their businesses from home or from nearby premises. If that is you, there is no employer to arrange a pension or sick pay on your behalf. We can help you put both in place, and if you trade through a limited company, look at whether the company can contribute to your pension or provide life cover.

Important — the risks

The performance of your investments is subject to risk. Its performance may fluctuate based on movements in the market and economic conditions. Capital is at risk. Currency movements may also affect the value of investments. You may get back less than you originally invested. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Tax treatment is based on an individual’s unique circumstances and may be subject to change.

A pension is a long-term investment — the fund value may fluctuate and can go down, and your eventual income may depend on the size of the fund at retirement, future interest rates and tax legislation.

Think carefully before securing debts against your home. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage or any other debt secured on it. Please note that some mortgages, such as commercial buy-to-lets, are not regulated by the FCA.
